Girls education in dire straits
by admin
According to a recent article in the Washington Times, the state of girls education in Pakistan is facing a severe crisis. Dwindling state funds and a lack of political will has relegated female education to the bottom of the priority barrel, with dire consequences for female literacy. The recent political turmoil has left the girls of Pakistan in an unfortunate bind with little recourse to funds or educational assistance.
Pakistan has one of the worst literacy rates in the world, and that holds doubly true for its women. While Pakistani girls in the posh areas of the large cities like Lahore and Karachi live affluent lives, their poorer counterparts in the rural areas are forced to scrounge for the basic necessities of life. In such testing times, education is perceived as a luxury. The vicious circle of poverty and illiteracy has truly shackled many poor females of this otherwise vibrant nation.
